How to Draw a Whitehead Out

Whiteheads are a common, yet embarrassing, skin problem. They are pimples that form on the skin and are caused by clogged pores from dirt, oil, makeup, sebum, and bacteria. Also, excessive exfoliation of dry skin cells can plug up the pores and lead to whiteheads, as the body naturally produces more sebum for dry skin. Getting rid of a whitehead that has already formed is also possible, if done correctly. Does this Spark an idea?

Have patience. Getting rid of firm whiteheads can prove a challenge, but it can be done in time. If you are impatient you may get frustrated and try to pop the pimple, something dermatologists advise against, which can cause skin damage and even create more pimples from the bacteria on your hands.

Purchase an over-the-counter topical cream to put on the whitehead. An ideal cream will likely have one of these effective main ingredients: benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or sulfur. There are different products to choose from, and since everyone's skin reacts differently to different products, the best way to see what works for you individually may be trial and error.

Try an at-home natural remedy to draw the whitehead out of the infected pore by placing a hot compress on the affected area. Place a clean towel under hot water to make the compress. The water shouldn't be so hot that it will burn the skin. Make it a tolerable heat, to open up the pore and bring the whitehead to the surface.

See your dermatologist, if nothing is helping get rid of the whiteheads. The doctor will be able to prescribe a more powerful medication.

Make sure you are washing your face at least twice a day with a medicated over-the-counter cleanser, once in the morning and once at night, to keep your pores bacteria free. It is also helpful to wash your face after you exercise or sweat profusely, as sweat can clog pores as well. If you have very dry skin, its important to use a toner and moisturizer after you wash your face to keep the dry skin cells from clogging pores.
