How to Treat Oily Skin Problems

Oily skin can be a very embarrassing problem. Having an oily skin type can cause the appearance of greasy or shiny skin. Acne is more likely to be caused for people with oily skin because the oils can clog the pores. People who suffer from this skin problem should be sure to put extra thought into what type of skin care products they are using on a daily basis. There are a number of different ways to treat oily and acne prone skin. Does this Spark an idea?

Use a daily facial cleanser. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, it is necessary for people with oily skin to use an oil-free foaming cleanser which contains either salicylic acid or Benzoyl peroxide as an ingredient. It is ideal to wash the face about twice a day with a facial cleanser. Keep in mind that over-washing can actually stimulate oil production, so take notice of what works best for your skin.

Select a good exfoliator. Exfoliation plays a very important role in the skin care process for people who have oily skin because it removes dead skin cells. This will help prevent the oils from getting trapped in the pores, which means that pimples will be less likely. Most people with oily skin can get away with using an exfoliator about twice a week.

Be sure to moisturize the skin. Many people think that oily skin does not require moisturizing because it will make the problem worse. Oil is not the same as moisture, however. Some people may see a major improvement in oil levels by using a moisturizer. It is best to use an oil-free production which contains SPF to protect the skin from sun damage.

Avoid certain products. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, men and women with oily skin should avoid products which contain coconut oil, cinnamon and cocoa butter. Also avoid using other types of oils on the skin, such as olive or vegetable oil, as they will make the skin even more oily.

Consider using a tanning bed. Although tanning bed use is linked to skin cancer, it can help improve skin problems for many people. Many people see an overall improvement in the amount of oil that is produced when they use tanning beds.

Visit the dermatologist. For people with moderate to severe acne problems, the best way to treat the problem is through prescription antibiotics or topical medications. Anyone who has tried other steps to get rid of acne may want to think about visiting a doctor who specializes in skin care.

Tips

- Remember not to overuse any skin care product.

Warning

- Avoid using an exfoliator during an acne breakout, as it can be too harsh for the skin.
